Studies show that 15% of people who are overweight are teens. This is because parents do not give the right nutrients such as fruits and vegetables and substitute this with junk food such as pizza and hamburgers.

If nothing is done about this, around 70% of the teens now will remain obese until adulthood. This will then make the person prone to diabetes or heart disease, which will get ugly if the condition worsens.

 This is due to the fact of the person's metabolism at this age so changing the eating habits is just part of the bigger picture to lose the extra weight.

Teens can sweat it off in gym class. But since this happens for an hour and less than three times a week, it is best to do this more often like after school by playing basketball or football with friends.

But if the individual wants to concentrate on this and work alone, then a great sport that involves all the muscle groups is swimming.

Swimming is considered to be the safe sport that can help anyone lose weight. This is because the chances of injuries such as a sprain can never happen when working out in the water.

This exercise is all about grace. From the moment the hand enters the water till the time it exits to the surface, each of the muscles in the body are working thus burning away more calories than jogging or running.

The person doesn't have to be an expert in this sport in order to lose weight. The most important thing is to know the basics of each stroke that can be taught by an instructor.

After learning, the teen can do few laps straight or do it in intervals. The pace clock may be used the speed of the person gets faster which will build up the heart rate and work those muscles.

If the individual wants to build those muscles and lose some weight, there is always the gym. There are machines there and other exercise equipment that can be used to get the person in shape.

The gym offers the teen two types of workouts, which are aerobic and anaerobic. Working in the treadmill or the stepper is what is known as aerobic while those that involves the use of dumbbells or barbells is anaerobic.

Just like swimming, the trainer will first teach the basics in using any of the equipment. After some time, adding more weights or adding exercises into the program will be incorporated if this is needed.

Doing some household chores is also a great way for a teen to lose some weight. Instead of having mom or dad bring the vehicle to the car wash, the person can volunteer to do it at home.

If the family only has one car, perhaps offering the same services to neighbors will be a good idea.

Teens who have a weight issue should consider taking steps as early as now before it is too late. This is because it is easier to handle it at this age rather than dealing with the problem as an adult.

The individual can work with doctors and with the support and love of the parents to get through this and move on with life.

I run for my aerobic exercise. You can run, walk, dance; whatever you prefer. Just be certain to do aerobics at least 3 – 4 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes each workout. If you are using HIIT or something on that order, obviously you will be spending less time getting in your aerobics.
